After completing the YCN Picnic Brief me, Sophie and Alice decided to revive ourselves with a trip to Chester Zoo!

Sometimes you need to have a break away from something to be able to free yourself and we needed to gather some fresh ideas.

On the 13rd March we took our exciting trip to the Zoo.

I haven’t been since I was in my early teens and it was something different and fun to relieve us of our stress. It was a lovely day and we just went on a leisurely stroll around the park, having a browse at what was on offer for you to do throughout the day.

I can honestly say that we had such a laugh. I think it’s great when you have a group of friends who just click together and it works. We seem to have created a trio as of late and although it’s often “3’s a crowd” it just doesn’t feel that way. Everyone feels included and certainly no one is left out. I enjoy when we get together and do fun stuff, and going to the Zoo is not something you can do every day. Living in Manchester, going into the city becomes a bore after a while. Especially when money is tight due to being a student!

While there, I was extremely excited to see the Lions, Monkeys, Elephants and Penguins. The penguins are one of my favourites at the zoo, they’re always so lively swimming through the water. Dipping and diving here, there and everywhere!

But more importantly, the Tigers had had little baby cubs and we were all eager to see them. We literally squealed with joy when the little one came out from under a rock!

We had a full day of seeing the different animals and I honestly felt so lucky to be able to see them up close. They are really well looked after in the zoo and we watched 2 keepers feeding a Lynx. When they walked in, it ran upto them as your pet cat would and enjoyed giving it stroke. It was surreal how tame it was!

I definitely enjoyed going to the zoo with my friends, and felt fresh with new ideas afterwards. It’s nice to get out of the house for a while and experience new things!

(Excuse the watermarks on my photos, I used them for my other blog)

The hunger games has been on my radar for quite a while now. Since the release of the film trailer, everyone has been going mad for it. I decided to read the books and scooped them up from The Works at 2 for £3, £2 each. So I got the whole trilogy a fiver, BARGAIN!
They are written by Suzanne Collins, who penned 3 books: The Hunger Games, Catching Fire and Mockingjay. They are set in a country called Panem, which is the remains of a country (believed to be North America), from thousands of years in the future. Panem is made up of 12 districts plus the powerful government-type city the Capitol. Each of the districts contributes their different skills to the Capitol – such as District 4 is Fishing, District 10 is livestock - for little in return. Each child within the districts between the ages of 12 and 17 are allowed to enter their name, sometimes numerous times into draw that could land them in a battle to the death – The Hunger Games.
The story is based around the main character Katniss Everdeen, who lives in the coalmining District 12 with her mother and sister. Her father having died in a coal mining accident years previous. They are very poor, as are 90% of the population of her district who suffer from the lack of food, which leads to starvation and death. Because of this, Katniss and her best friend Gale taught themselves how to hunt. This helped her family live, as well as the people in the district. They found that this was something to enjoyed to do, although is a risk leaving the confines of the district – it is illegal and capture would lead to death.
The story of the first book starts on Reaping Day. Every year this is the day that 1 boy and 1 girl will be chosen to enter the Hunger Games. To fight for their lives to try and win. Only 1 person will survive, out of 24. Katniss’ younger sister, Prim, is worried that she will be chosen for the Games but she is reassured by Katniss that her name is only in the draw once – this is down to Katniss applying for her so that she wouldn’t risk her life.
As the people of Distict 12 gather around to hear the 2 tributes being called, Katniss is horrified that her sister, Primrose Everdeen has been chosen. She volunteers for her immediately, knowing that Prim wouldn’t stand a chance in the arena.
The story then goes from there –Katniss and her fellow district tribute Peeta Mellark, is swept away to the Capitol for the weeks of training before they enter the arena.
I very much enjoyed reading these books, and was sucked into the pages from the first few chapters. I think that Suzanne Collins did an amazing job of coming up with the plot, creating likeable and easy to remember characters! I especially loved that each character had their own little running story and how in the end, everything was joined together beautifully. I was never bored with this series, and always wanted to know what was going to happen on the next pages.
I would certainly recommend anyone to read these books, and I am so excited to go and see the film tomorrow!(Words - 556)

So I lost my pen drive over the weekend and with it a lot of my design work for the past brief. So if you’re reading this now, and you haven’t got your work backed up, do it now!

*scream*

Yeah so after I put up the files, my mac went completely crazy and I lost all the work.

So I just had to redo it.

Frustrating but sh*t happens unfortunately.

I have been coding my website all morning and I feel like I’ve actually won!

I made a few mistakes, and it messed up a few times but I had great help from my friends so it worked out well in the end.

I just need to figure out how to add another page now as we’ve just been told they have to be on the style sheet. Argh.

Hopefully I can get it sorted for tomorrow’s hand in!

Tomorrow is the day for me to start coding my site.
I’m happy with the way it looks and I’ve already sliced it all up so now it’s onto actually making it work!
I’m nervous about it but I’m pretty sure with some confidence and a bit of patience I’ll do it.
